SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A San Francisco police officer accused of manufacturing and being in possession of a prohibited AR-15 style assault rifle has been arrested.

Thomas Abrahamsen, 50, a Berkeley resident, surrendered himself and was booked at San Francisco County Jail.

He faces two felony counts of manufacturing and possessing an assault weapon.

The SFPD Internal Affairs Division worked with and provided the completed investigation to the District Attorney's Office.

Abrahamsen, an 18-year veteran is currently on unpaid administrative leave.

The department said fellow officers reported Abrahamsen to internal affairs.
