Hillary Clinton is a "Friend & Sister Mother," says mothers who lost sons to gun violence

"I have said over and over again, I wish people would know the Hillary Clinton that we know," Lucia McBath said to PopSugar.

McBath lost her son, Jordan Davis, to gun violence in 2012 when Michael David Dunn fired 10 bullets into the 17-year-old's car, fatally injuring him. The altercation occurred after Dunn had complained about the volume of Davis' music.

McBath has since become an advocate for the Black Lives Matter movement and has endorsed Clinton to push for gun control legislation. While some Clinton detractors have claimed that the Democratic presidential nominee is "dishonest," untrustworthy," or "cold," McBath insists that isn't the Clinton that she has come to know.

"We don't see what the rest of the country says that she isn't. Because she is all of that," said McBath, standing next to Maria Hamilton. "She's very personable, she's very loving, she's very affectionate, she's very warm."

Both McBath and Hamilton spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia recently, citing the personal interactions they've had with Clinton. Hamilton also lost her son, Dontre Hamilton, after a police pat-down escalated into deadly violence.

"For me, she's a friend," said Hamilton. "She supported me when I wasn't able to support myself. So I love her to death."

In April, Clinton met with both McBath and Hamilton, and other mothers who lost sons to gun and police violence, and urged them to come together as the "Mothers of the Movement" and join her campaign trail.
