The roof of a Safeway store in San Jose collapsed in the powerful storm on Thursday.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- There are two weather-related holes in the roof of a Safeway in San Jose, and it's getting worse. Some supermarket workers got out just minutes before a 50-foot section collapsed just before 4 p.m. during Thursday's storm.

Firefighters say the hole at the store on East Capitol Expressway and Silver Creek Road has gotten bigger and there is risk of a complete collapse.

Safeway was open and people were inside when the ceiling came crashing down.

On Friday, employees took another look at the damage from the outside as customers were turned away by security guards.

Anthony Scott intended to make an ice cream delivery.

"And I noticed that everything was blocked off, so I'm just trying to figure out what's going on. Come to find out, the roof fell in from the bad accident they had yesterday, so I guess there won't be no ice cream for a while," said Scott.

One person suffered minor injuries.

Some neighboring businesses at Silver Creek Plaza were evacuated and are still closed.

Kat Flintjer works at Pet Food Express. Her store is open, but employees are still shaken up.

"It's really, really scary kind of cause the first thing we thought of is what if it starts trickling down the buildings and ours collapses, but apparently there's a nice wall between it," said Flintjer.

It's unclear when or if the store will reopen.
