BOULDER, Colo. (KGO) -- People in Boulder, Colo. are baffled by an unusual crime spree sweeping that college town.

Garden gnomes are vanishing at an alarming rate.

Homeowner Kristine Smith received an email last Saturday from a group calling itself the Gnome Liberation Front.

The GLF informed her that it had stolen a gnome from her yard and sent a picture to prove it. Smith says the whole thing is a bit eerie.

"They said they renamed him Elvis and that we didn't have respect for him because we never named him, so I don't think we'll ever see him again," Smith said. "That's my sense."

Elvis is just the latest gnome to be "liberated." None of the others has been returned.
